Mugs for the missing...

This year the school I work at have lost many big characters, sadly including several of my best friends.  To make matters worse, all three of them are moving abroad (or might as well be for the distance of one of them) so it is unlikely I will see them again.  As a parting gift I made some mugs (other than the one moving to Oz as he doesn't like baggage!) as a reminder of their time back here.  Tye requested an owl mug several months ago, so I incorporated a little inspiration from her love of sugar skulls too.
Ian's facial wear will go down in history at Northgate, so I picked two of his most unique moustache styles to illustrate.
I wish all three of them the very best for the future, it will never be the same without you. Love x

Stowfest Music Festival 2012

"THE MIX" got involved with this years Stowfest on Saturday 9th June despite the high winds and spots of rain....
Representing the Mix was the very talented Mister Millerchip getting some drawing activities going on  as well as my critter creating workshops.  The day was a huge success and drummed up a lot of interest in the full workshops that will be taking place in Stowmarket through out the summer.

Paper Memories IP1

Issue 42 presented me with my most challenging piece of copy from IP1 yet.  The article was about teens who have lost their parents at an age when no child should.  As it is a very sensitive topic, I wanted to avoid any cliches, dark or depressive content.  Eventually I went with a loose concept of delicate origami animals with only one adult present. Apparently both moths and bats are a sign of death in a family too so they were my initial illustrations.  I then chose a mammal of land and water to complete the trip tic.

Secret 7"

"Secret 7" is an exciting project combining music and art for designers, all in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust."

Hundreds of artists got involved designing a one off 7" vinyl album cover.  Seven musical artists and tracks were chosen for us to create into a piece of art.  These were then exhibited for a week in April at the Idea Generation Gallery in Shoreditch, where they were being sold for cash donations to go to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
The track name, musical artist, and visual artist were all kept secret until they had been bought and a slip inside revealed all.  This meant people were able to pick up big names unknowingly for a bargain price, and helping out a great cause all at the same time.


I decided to go with Ben Howard's "Black Flies" for my track.  I freehand machine embroidered an old man's face on the front alongside this quote which summed up my interoperation of the lyrics.
"What lies behind you, and what lies infront of you,
Pales in comparison to what lies inside of you."
Inside i drew a bunch of scribble flies which directly linked to the track title.

Custom Clouds

"Please forgive me for not writing sooner.  The Teapot and cups are FANTASTIC!!!!"

A little while back, I had an online order from my website for a set of "Storm in a Teacup"cups.  It was a gift for a 21st birthday so it came with a request to be customised in any way I felt would fit within the design.  I painted a subtle "E" initial on the top of the handles and "Happy 21st" on the base of them all.  "A Storm is brewing" teapot was also made to match the pair of "Storm in a teacup" cups.

The feedback was so lovely from them that they have even asked for another pair of teacups, sugar bowl and creamer to complete the set.

In the new year I was approached about a commission for Gapyear.com, working on a very quick turn around the 100,000 run of the magazine is now out and about to get muddy paws on.

The magazine is so inspiring, full of beautiful photography capturing the wonders waiting to be experienced.  I was very excited to get on board with this team to illustrate for it, however I am slightly disappointed about the lack of living koala bear I was promised as part of the package Macca!!

IP1 On the Record

I was given a difficult article to illustrate again this issue, covering three case studies about young offenders and the impact on their future.  No visuals jumped out at me for ages so in the end I decided to think a little more out of the box.  Magpies.  They like stealing (pretty) things.  The classic stripped attire that convicts wear, so Mr Magpie's chest got dressed in stripes.  To top him off I created a fox/shadow type daemon that engulfed him until he shed his troubles and flew into a colourful future!!
